Diane Arbus

Diane was born with the last name Nemerov. She was born to Jewish parents in New York City. She went to the Feildston School for Ethical Culture. and at age eighteen married Allan Arbus. They had two kids then divorced in 1969. Before they divorced she and her husband took pictures for magazines such as Glamour, Seventeen, Vogue, Harpers Baazaar. Even though they both said they "hated the fashion world." Diane worked with and studied under many of the famous photographers. Her main subject of photos were "deviant and marginal people, dwarfs, giants, transvestites, nudists, and circus performers, or else of people whose normality seems ugly or surreal." A quote directly from her is " Freaks are a thing i photographed a lot Most people go through life dreading they'll have a traumatic experience. Freaks were born with their trauma. They've already passed their test in life. They're aristocrats." Diane Arbus killed herself in 1971.

Journals

Assg. 2. This assginment did not go as planned. It started out great. I Processed early. Then I found out that I had the wrong ISO
(my arch enemy) so I had to start over. My reshoot was rushed, crappy, and all around painful. All around it was hard and and turned in way late.

Assgment 3-toning-
Since this one had to come from the same roll as the others so it was hard to find a decent image on my contact sheet. Once I did that it all went smoothly and turned out pretty good. I am overall happy with this assignment. It is interesting to see the color change.

Assignment 3- contrast- This one went well. I got to shoot new images. Daylight savings time is great! It was still light at 5:30! anyway, I am excited about this assignment I think I got some good images.

Self Reflection.

In my life I take two different arts, theater and Photo. Having those two constantly in my brain, not just the keeping up in both but the creative side. Both are capturing a moment. Throughout winter term and fall I have had fun playing with the connections between the two, stopping in the middle of a scene and thinking how I would make what I was seeing then in to an image. Or even with a photo, building a play or scene around that particular photo. In the begining of the term, or even the year, theater and photo to me were to very different things. as it has progressed I have grown to love having the two together. What emotion is this scene or character feeling and connecting that scene or character to what objective is the photo striving for? What "tactic" will I use in shooting this to make that emotion come through on to the print? Almost like the actor and the photogragher change depending on the scene/project. Anyway the stage and darkroom connection has been made during this digital term.

Final Project

yeah I am finally done! Although I may have done it wrong, I am looking over at Daniels computer and his images look alot bigger, so if it is wrong just think of this as a "preview" of my final project. Anyway this final project was a pain. I am not going to lie. Sometimes teachers said they would be there and then were not, other times they had a class, sometimes they were not so happy about the picture, a few thought they knew more about how I should compose the image better then me, which they did not. In the end some of them were a smashing success, others, not so much. Shaw was a smashing success, Tanner and Sayes, not so much.

I learned, slow down! take your time! let the teachers suffer so you can get it just right!

What I would do diferently if I did it again, start earlier, which I could not do becasue of the absence of a so called "camera"

The overall experience was good. Many people got used to me walking around campus with a tripod at all hours of the day. Final word,I vow to never shoot an assigment at Waterford if I can help it.

MY FINAL PROJECT

Alright, slade decided my FP for me. I am going to take panoramas of teachers in their classrooms, We (slade and me) stumbled upon this idea during a diferent assigment were I took a few panos of teachers. They were liked and decided that it was the final project. Here are the teachers: Mr. Harris, band teacher, Mr. Sayes, Mr. Tanner. Mrs. Tanner, Mr. Florence, and Mr. my dad. Anyway I am excited to do it.

Portraits

I. Don;t like portraits. at all. No one ever lets me take images of them. any way, tough project, this assigment was low on my priority list, which made it bad, but good news, no play Winter Term, well kinda no play, so Photo is a proirity agian! yaya,

I had a lot of fun with this assigment. I like not having guidelines. This assigment has kind of been a dream. I have always wanted to shoot dogs at the park in great light. Cliche(pretty sure I spelled that wrong)I know but i enjoy it. I think this asigment shows what I do. Fifty free gave kids a chance to shoot what they like and an insight in to what students really would take pictures of. EVEN if slade does not like them.
